Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has confirmed that the North East side have lodged their final bid for Watford defender Adrian Mariappa.
The Premier League side have been one from a handful of clubs interested in the 25-year-old, including Stoke City and Swansea City.
While the Magpies are keen to clinch the defender, Pardew has claimed that Newcastle will not return in the summer if they are unsuccessful today.
"If he doesn't come today then he probably won't come to this football club because in the summer we'll probably go elsewhere if I'm honest," said Pardew.
"So at the moment [it's] fairly okay but there's still time. I think it's purely in Watford's court. We're waiting for Watford to decide what they want to do."
The Championship side rejected an approach from Wigan Athletic this morning.
