Newcastle United have become interested in signing Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel in the summer transfer window, according to a report.
The Foxes have endured a disappointing campaign this season, and it has been reported in recent days that Brendan Rodgers has made plans for a squad overhaul ahead of the 2022-23 season, with the likes of Youri Tielemans set to depart.
However, first-choice goalkeeper Schmeichel could also leave the King Power Stadium according to talkSport, who report that the Magpies are tracking the Dane's situation.
The 35-year-old's contract is due to expire in June 2023, and with him entering the final year of his deal this summer, he could be tempted to move on, the report suggests.
Talks over a new deal are set to take place at the end of the season, but Newcastle are said to be monitoring any progress, with manager Eddie Howe looking for a new number one this summer.
Schmeichel would reportedly like to continue playing European football following Leicester's failure to secure continental qualification of any kind this season, whilst he would also be open to a move abroad too.
Having won the Premier League and the FA Cup during his time with the Foxes, Schmeichel has gone on to make 477 appearances for the club across all competitions since joining from Leeds United in 2011. body check tags ::
