Newcastle United are interested in signing FC Twente defender Douglas, according to The Chronicle.
Magpies manager Alan Pardew has turned his attention to the Brazilian, having reportedly failed in a bid to sign Watford centre-back Adrian Mariappa.
However, Twente manager Steve McClaren is thought to be keen on keeping hold of Douglas and wants the 24-year-old to sign a new deal.
Newcastle have already spent around £9m this month to take Freiburg striker Papiss Cisse to Tyneside.
