Nottingham Forest have explored the possibility of bringing defender Jamaal Lascelles back to the club from Newcastle United this summer, according to a report.
The 28-year-old was purchased by the Magpies for around £4m back in 2014, leaving the City Ground having coming through the academy in the East Midlands.
Lascelles is the current captain of Eddie Howe's side, and has gone on to make 214 appearances for the club during his eight-year stay so far.
However, following the arrival of Dan Burn at St James' Park in the January transfer window, Lascelles found his playing time limited during the second half of the 2021-22 campaign, and with Newcastle expected to strengthen further this summer, the central defender could be pushed further down the pecking order.
As a result, several Premier League clubs are said to be interested in a move for Lascelles in the upcoming transfer window, including former club Forest, according to a report from The Athletic.
Steve Cooper's Reds will compete in the Premier League for the first time in 23 years when they kick off the 2022-23 campaign in August, following their 1-0 victory over Huddersfield Town in the Championship playoff final at Wembley on Sunday.
The former Swansea City boss has a significant amount of transfer business to attend to over the coming weeks, with several loan players and out-of-contract stars set to leave the club as things stand, including the highly-rated Djed Spence. body check tags ::
