Scottish Premier League clubs have voted in favour of a merge between themselves and the Scottish Football League.
Under the new proposal, it will remain 12 teams in the top flight, with 10 clubs making up each of the other three divisions.
However, all 42 clubs would be under the same governing body, which has also prompted a new financial distribution mode to be agreed.
It has further been decided that the team that finish 11th in the SPL will take on the sides that have finished second, third and fourth in the league below to determine who will play in the top division the next season.
