An Andre-Pierre Gignac goal was enough to give Marseille a 1-0 win over Nice in Ligue 1 this afternoon.
Gignac and Mathieu Valbuena both had chances in the opening minutes of the game, the latter sending his effort wide before David Ospina kept out the former.
The visitors' early pressure led to a breakthrough in the 15th minute, Gignac heading in from a Valbuena corner.
Dario Cvitanich and Timothee Kolodziejczak both had chances to level for Nice before half time, but Steve Mandanda was able to keep their shots out.
The home side made a bright start to the second half, as Romain Genevois, Eric Bautheac and Camel Meriem all had chances inside the opening five minutes.
Nice continued to look the more likely to score in the second half, but none of the efforts found the back of the net.
The result moves Marseille back up to second in the table, seven points behind leaders Paris Saint-Germain, while Nice remain fifth.
