Norwich goalkeeper John Ruddy is hoping to force his way into the England reckoning with a big performance against Liverpool.
The former Everton stopper has yet to keep a clean sheet in the Premier League this season but has caught the attention of Fabio Capello.
"It's everybody's ambition, isn't it - to play for your country," said Ruddy.
"I'm not expecting a call-up, but I know I have been watched and if I keep playing well for Norwich then that can only improve my chances."
The 24-year-old returns to Merseyside for his side's match at Anfield on Saturday.
Ruddy added: "I'm expecting to be under pressure at Liverpool but hopefully I won't be getting any stick from the Kop - they probably won't even remember I used to play for Everton!
"I've never played there before, but was on the bench for a Merseyside derby. The atmosphere was just incredible.
"It was an exceptional occasion and I'm really looking forward to this game. If I do play well, it can only help my England chances."
Ruddy joined Norwich from Everton for £250,000 in 2009.
