Alex Neil targets automatic promotion with Norwich City after Ipswich Town win

Alex Neil believes that automatic promotion from the Championship is within Norwich City's grasp following their 2-0 victory over Ipswich Town in the Old Farm derby.

Norwich City manager Alex Neil has expressed his belief in earning automatic promotion to the Premier League following this afternoon's East Anglian derby win over Ipswich Town.

In his first Old Farm derby, Neil guided Norwich to a 2-0 victory - the first time in the Canaries' history that they have beaten Ipswich four times in a row.

It was also their sixth straight win, moving them up to third in the table and just three points behind league leaders Derby County.

"The good thing now is that it is in our own hands," PA quotes Neil as saying. "We are now third, three points off the top, and we have still got to play the two sides above us (Derby and Middlesbrough) at home.

"We have given ourselves a chance, but that is all it is, a chance, and we have got to keep working hard and try to make sure we take it.

"Our biggest game of the season now is Wigan at home on Wednesday. There can be no room for complacency. We have just got to make sure we approach the game in the right manner and keep this run going because we have the momentum with us now."

The Canaries have arguably the easiest run-in of any of the promotion chasers, with the home games against Derby and Boro the only two matches they have against the other sides in the top eight.
