A second-half strike from Dale Jennings has given Barnsley a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Nottingham Forest in the Championship this afternoon.
Returning midfielder Jim O'Brien looked to test the Forest goal early on when he unleashed an effort from distance, which just evaded the keeper's right post.
Barnsley came close again minutes later when Martin Woods whipped in a cross for Peter Ramage, but somehow the defender managed to fire his header high and wide of the goal.
Forest thought that they had taken the lead when Djamel Abdoun hit an almost unstoppable effort from distance, but it smashed into the right post with the goalkeeper beaten.
Jamie Mackie was next to test the hosts' defence as he leapt to meet a cross from Abdoun, but the striker could only send his header over the bar.
The hosts took the lead after only five minutes of the second half had been played, when Jennings drilled home a right-footed shot from outside the box into the bottom corner.
Forest almost found a reply through Jamie Paterson whose left-footed shot from outside came close, but it flew just wide of the left post, leaving the final score to end 1-0.
