Nottingham Forest reportedly have plans in place to extend the contracts of two of their star players.
On the back of narrowly avoiding relegation from the Premier League last season, the East Midlands outfits have developed into one of the dark horses of the division.
A total of 16 points - as well as just one defeat - have been recorded from nine matches, leaving Forest in seventh position in the Premier League standings.
As well as possessing the second-best defensive record in the division, Forest's attack has proven to be efficiently effective in a number of matches.
According to John Percy of The Telegraph, that has led to the club's hierarchy putting plans in place to extend the terms of two of their valued squad members.
Reward for Wood
Negotiations are already said to have been opened with forward Chris Wood, who has netted seven of the club's 11 top-flight goals this campaign.
When arriving from Newcastle United in January 2023, there was doubt among the Forest fanbase whether the acquisition of the New Zealand international was the best piece of business that was on the table at the time.
However, a total of 23 goals from 51 outings in all competitions has more than justified the transfer, with Wood arguably Forest's most important player with Nuno Espirito Santo at the helm.
There is urgency to finalise a deal with Wood's contract due to expire at the end of the season, yet the 32-year-old has given every indication that he is settled at the City Ground.
The report adds that Forest are prepared to hand Wood a deal that would run until the end of 2026-27.
Forest also keen to extend Aina deal?
Forest are also of the opinion that versatile full-back Ola Aina is deserving of fresh terms having proven his worth since Nuno's arrival.
Since arriving on a free transfer, the Nigeria international has made 31 appearances in all competitions, including nine successive Premier League starts in 2024-25.
The 28-year-old has been used at both right-back and left-back this season, currently being deployed in the former ahead of Neco Williams. body check tags ::
