Joey Barton is holding talks with Nottingham Forest ahead of a proposed move, according to a report.
The 32-year-old is keen to resolve his future before the transfer window closes on September 1.
Despite being a free agent, and thus being allowed to sign for clubs after the deadline, the Daily Mail suggests that the former Queens Park Rangers player is hopeful of completing a deal in the coming days.
Barton has been linked with numerous Premier League sides since seeing his contract at Loftus Road expire, with West Ham United among those thought to have shown an interest, but no move has yet transpired.
Forest could now take a chance on the experienced midfielder, while the same report also suggests that Henri Lansbury is poised to commit to a new deal.
Lansbury had been expected to join Championship rivals Burnley, but the Reds revealed on Wednesday night that the 25-year-old has no intention of leaving this summer.
