Dominic Poleon's strike has given Oldham Athletic a 1-0 half-time lead over Peterborough United at Boundary Park.
The Latics started brightly and Poleon put them ahead on nine minutes with his third goal in two home games, heading Brian Wilson's cross into the top corner.
Things got worse for Posh, who have won just one of their last seven games, as they lost striker Erhun Oztumer and defender Gabriel Zakuani to first-half injuries.
Peterborough came close to finding an equaliser when Joe Newell shot into the side-netting just shy of the half-hour mark, and closer still when Conor Washington rounded Joel Coleman only for the goalkeeper to recover and make a scrambling save on his line.
The visitors could finish as high as seventh in the table with victory, while a first win in eight games should be enough for Oldham to end the season in 14th.
