Oldham Athletic and Ched Evans have reportedly agreed personal terms over a move.
The 26-year-old former Sheffield United striker was released from prison in October after serving half of a five-year sentence for rape.
Evans has been in talks with League One side Oldham for the past week over a possible transfer. However, thousands of people have signed a petition urging the club not to hand the Welshman a contract.
It is understood that the forward has now edged closer to joining the Latics, according to Sky Sports News.
Oldham were expected to update the media on the latest developments by the end of Tuesday, but they later announced that no statement would be made.
A number of sponsors have claimed that they will sever ties with the club should Evans move to Boundary Park, but reports last night suggested that Evans's family were willing to make up any financial difference if the club were to lose money.
