Patrick Kluivert has reportedly emerged as a surprise candidate for the vacant managerial position at Oxford United.

In recent weeks, Oxford have held discussions with the likes of David Unsworth and Craig Bellamy, but talks broke down with both candidates.

However, according to The Sun, new owner Sumrith Thanakarnjanasuth has set his sights on Kluivert and negotiations have already gotten underway with the former Netherlands striker.

Kluivert's last role came as director of football at Paris Saint-Germain, but the 41-year-old has also been involved on the backroom staff at Ajax and the Dutch national team.

Oxford - who sit in 16th place in League One - have been without a permanent boss since parting company with Pep Clotet on January 22.
