Matthew Lund's first goal for Rochdale earned Keith Hill's men their first away point of the season, as Oxford United were held to a 1-1 draw at the Kassam Stadium.
The former Stoke City midfielder headed home a 51st-minute equaliser following Rhys Bennett's pinpoint cross.
James Constable had earlier fired Oxford into the lead midway through a first half in which the hosts were thoroughly dominant.
However, whatever Hill said to his players during the interval appeared to do the trick.
After equalising, Rochdale dominated possession and could have snatched all three points had Bennett's header been more accurate.
