Palermo have ended a run of three Serie A matches without a win by beating Chievo 1-0 at the Stadio Renzo Barbera this afternoon.
Valter Birsa and Lucas Castro both fired over the bar in the opening minutes, as the visitors made the brighter start to the match.
Chievo came close once again midway through the first half when Birsa headed a cross from Fabrizio Cacciatore narrowly over the top.
Palermo were struggling to come up with any chances of their own until Robin Quaison lashed a strike high and wide of the target.
The hosts crafted a far more promising opening early in the second half as Alberto Gilardino crashed in a drive that forced a save from Albano Bizzarri.
However, Chievo soon wasted a gilt-edged chance to take the lead when Alberto Paloschi was played through on goal by Roberto Inglese, before placing his effort wide of the post.
The shots on goal continued at both ends of the pitch and Quaison threatened with a powerful attempt from outside the box that had to be turned over by Bizzarri.
In the 71st minute the deadlock was finally broken by Palermo, as Gilardino found himself unmarked inside the box from a corner to nod in Sinisa Andjelkovic's header back across goal and seal the points for his side.
