How Paraguay could line up against Peru

Sports Mole takes an in-depth look at how Paraguay could line up for Friday's Copa America clash with Peru.

Paraguay should opt to stick with a largely unchanged side for Friday's Copa America quarter-final clash with Peru, following an impressive performance in the group stage.

That will see Junior Alonso lead the back four while Gustavo Gomez and Robert Rojas will compete to play alongside the Atletico Mineiro man.

They will shield 37-year-old goalkeeper Antony Silva, who put in an eye-catching performance during the recent 1-0 defeat to Uruguay to keep his nation in the game.

Further forward, Mathias Villasanti and Gaston Gimenez should continue to shield the back four, allowing the front four to get forward.

Their attacking line should feature the likes of Newcastle United star Miguel Almiron and Angel Romero, who hit two goals in their opening victory over Bolivia in the group stage.

Alejandro Romero will hope for a return to the starting XI, although his two consecutive games on the bench could see him again used as a substitute on Friday.

Meanwhile, Braian Samudio should keep his place on the wing, having scored the opening goal in their crucial 2-0 win over Chile.

The trio of Almiron, Romero and Samudio could operate behind the focal point of Gabriel Avalos, who offers plenty of experience going forward.

Paraguay possible starting lineup: Silva; Espinola, Gomez, Alonso, Alderete; Villasanti, Gimenez; Romero, Almiron, Samudio; Avalos
