Peru coach Gareca to consider future

Peru coach Ricardo Gareca has confirmed that he will take time to consider his future after his side wrapped up their World Cup campaign on a high note.

The South Americans lost their first two Group C games to miss out on the chance to make the last 16 but ran out 2-0 winners over Australia in their final encounter in Russia.

The tenure of Socceroos coach Bert van Marwijk is already scheduled to end after the tournament, but Gareca says that he will consider his options.

"Whether I continue or not depends on many factors," the 60-year-old told his post-match press conference.

"There are times when you need to take stock personally and the Peruvian Football Federation also need to take stock.

"You need time to think things over with a cool head because the national team coach is a huge responsibility as you have an entire country on your shoulders for four years.

"To make that decision you need to be in a good place and analyse everything."

Peru's win over Australia is their first at the World Cup for 40 years.
