Peterborough United are into the second round of the Capital One Cup after seeing off the challenge of League Two outfit Crawley Town at London Road.
Posh struck first blood within two minutes of kickoff as Harry Anderson's cross found Conor Washington, who calmly netted his fifth goal in six outings.
The United forward nearly made it six goals in six soon after, but was denied by Newcastle United loanee Freddie Woodman.
Crawley were denied by the woodwork late in the first half after Matt Harrold's shot from a few yards out came back off the frame of the goal.
Marcus Maddison could have given Peterborough a second goal just before the interval, only to see his effort saved low down by Woodman.
However, Woodman was unable to do anything after the restart as Maddison turned home another pinpoint ball into the box from Anderson.
Just after the hour mark, Maddison was denied again by Woodman as he looked to put the tie beyond the reach of Crawley.
Town tried to pull themselves back into the tie in the dying stages, with Sonny Bradley and Gwion Edwards going close, but Posh were able to hold out for a place in round two.
