Marcus Maddison's long-range volley has given Peterborough United a 1-0 lead against Port Vale in this afternoon's League One clash at London Road.
The Valiants were quickest off the starting blocks, troubling Posh early on through probing efforts from Mark Marshall, Tom Pope and Michael Brown.
Peterborough gave the Valiants a scare in the 19th minute when Conor Washington fired a dangerous shot straight at Chris Neal, with the rebound falling to Luke James, who went on to blast over the bar.
The home side took the lead on the half-hour mark through Maddison. The signing from Gateshead collected the ball on the right wing following in a throw-in before turning and lashing the ball into the top corner.
Vale nearly forged an equalising chance with just two minutes to go in the first half when Pope was able to chest down the ball deep inside the Posh box, but his subsequent effort was deflected away from danger.
