Portland Timbers have suffered defeat for the fifth consecutive MLS regular season game.
Gavin Wilkinson's men dominated for large periods of their match with Club Deportivo Chivas USA at Jeld-Wen Field, recording 11 more shots and nine more corners than their Californian opponents.
Despite Portland's overall superiority, Chivas scored the game's only goal in the 69th minute when Danny Califf powerfully headed home following Ben Zemanski's whipped free kick.
Portland's next match is at home against fellow Western Conference strugglers FC Dallas on August 5.
