Porto needed a late brace from Jackson Martinez to secure a 2-2 draw with Shakhtar Donetsk in Group H in the Champions League this evening.

Alex Teixeira and Luiz Adriano scored in the second half to give the Ukrainian champions a 2-0 lead heading into the final five minutes in Lviv.

However, Martinez scored from the penalty spot before netting from close range deep into stoppage time, leaving the Portuguese side at the top of their group.

Was the result fair?

When you look at the statistics, it would have been very harsh for Porto not to have come away with at least a point from this match. The visitors were unlucky not to be ahead after missing a penalty in the first half, and responded well after falling behind after the break. Shakhtar will no doubt be disappointed to have let a two-goal lead slip late on, but on the whole a draw does seem a fair reflection of this evening's match.

Shakhtar's performance

The Ukrainian champions took a little longer to get into the match than their opponents this evening, but once they started to see plenty of the ball they had bags of pace and always looked sharp going forward. Despite coming up against the likes of Cristian Tello and Yacine Brahimi, the home side rarely looked stretched at the back, ensuring that Andriy Pyatov had a quiet night between the posts until the final 10 minutes when Porto desperately pushed to get back on level terms.

Porto's performance

Porto were the stronger of the two sides in the first half, missing a penalty while being denied what looked like a handball earlier on in the half. The visitors defended well for the majority of the outing, but a couple of sloppy mistakes allowed Shakhtar to score their two goals, leaving them dependent on a late burst from Jackson Martinez.

Jackson Martinez: He may have only played 25 minutes this evening, but Jackson Martinez really made his presence felt for Porto tonight. He was involved in a couple of chances before hitting a brace in the space of six minutes late on, including a goal in the fourth minute of stoppage time, and a penalty against a keeper who had already denied one of Martinez's teammates earlier on. His absence from the starting lineup was a surprise, but the Colombian certainly proved himself a super-sub for Porto.

Biggest gaffe

Yaroslav Rakitskiy was lucky not to concede a penalty in the first half when replays appeared to show that he had handled the ball in the area, but the defender did give away a late spot kick in the second half for another handball, having not learnt his lesson from the first half. Martinez scored from the resulting spot kick, starting a late comeback from the visitors.

Referee performance

It is rarely a dull night when Turkish referee Cuneyt Cakir takes charge of a Champions League tie, and tonight was no exception. Cakir failed to award what appeared to be a clear penalty to Porto for a Rakitskiy handball in the first half, before giving a fairly soft spot kick when Brahimi fell in the box shortly after. The official was pretty liberal with the yellow cards too, booking seven players, including Shakhtar captain Darijo Srna, who went in the book for not waiting for the referee to finish applying the vanishing spray ahead of a free kick.

What next?

Shakhtar: Shakhtar have a big match in the Ukrainian Premier League this weekend as they travel to Dynamo Kiev. They will also play Volyn before facing BATE Borisov in their next Champions League outing.

Porto: Porto host Sporting Braga in the Primeira Liga on Sunday before welcoming Athletic Bilbao in the Champions League later this month.
