Preston North End manager Simon Grayson has revealed that striker Stevie May will play no further part this season due to a knee ligament injury.
The 23-year-old has made eight appearances for the Lilywhites since joining on a £750,000 deal from Sheffield Wednesday in the summer.
May sustained the injury in the latter stages of last weekend's 1-1 draw with Fulham at Craven Cottage, with a scan on Wednesday evening confirming Preston's worst fears.
"We got the news back and it's not good news for Stevie to start with and us as a football club," the Lancashire Evening Post quotes Grayson as saying.
"He's going to be out for the season. He's suffered ligament damage and a little bit of other damage in there as well. Everybody connected with the club is devastated for the lad because he's a good kid, but hopefully he will come back strong."
May failed to open his scoring account for North End prior to picking up the season-ending injury last Saturday.
