Sports Mole previews Sunday's friendly clash between PSV Eindhoven and Nottingham Forest, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.
Sports Mole

PSV Eindhoven host Nottingham Forest at the Philips Stadion on Sunday in the Dutch side's final friendly clash preceding competitive fixtures.

The game is PSV's last before their Johan Cruyff Shield meeting with defending league champions Feyenoord, while the Tricky Trees have had mixed results in the off-season.

Match preview

PSV's preseason began on a losing note, but three consecutive victories have put them on track heading into their last tune-up game before competitive action returns.

Peter Bosz's side lost 2-1 against Sint-Truidense at the start of the month but wins over BW Linz, Augsburg, and Eindhoven mean they could claim four consecutive triumphs when they host Forest this weekend.

Without a clean sheet in all four friendly games, PSV seek their first shutout against the Premier League outfit on their turf.

Sunday's game will be the Peasants' final fixture before taking on Feyenoord in the Johan Cruyff Shield, seeking their 14th title and third success on the trot.

Having picked up momentum after that initial defeat, Bosz's team would not want to lose steam before battling for the first significant game of the Dutch football season.

It has been a mixed summer for Steve Cooper's Forest, whose performances and results have been inconsistent after four games.

The Tricky Trees have alternated between victories and defeats in their friendly games, losing two and winning as many since a 1-0 triumph over Notts County a fortnight back.

Cooper's men have kept one shutout in four games, but more worrying is the inability to score in both defeats by Valencia (1-0) and Leeds United (2-0).

The Premier League side travel to the Netherlands for their fifth game in preseason as they continue preparations for their season-opening game at title-contending Arsenal.

It remains to be seen if Forest get the better of PSV, but a positive result gives the Tricky Trees optimism for the rest of pre-season, with the 2023-24 league campaign imminent.

Team News

USMNT forward Ricardo Pepi has been in fine form for PSV in preseason, scoring against Linz and Eindhoven, and the 20-year-old should keep his starting berth on Sunday — at the expense of Luuk de Jong.

Joel Drommel has been in goal for three consecutive tune-up games, and the shot-stopper should keep his place in Bosz's team.

Olivier Boscagli could return to the lineup after getting a breather against Eindhoven, with Ibrahim Sangare also expected to be reinstated.

Taiwo Awoniyi is still searching for his first goal in the off-season, but the Forest striker should start up top against Feyenoord.

George Shelvey should return as the Tricky Trees' goalkeeper, while Willy Boly could continue at the heart of the English side's backline.

PSV Eindhoven possible starting lineup:
Drommel; Sambo, Teze, Boscagli, Van Aanholt; Sangare, Veerman; Bakayoko, Lang, Babadi; Pepi

Nottingham Forest possible starting lineup:
Shelvey; Aurier, Boly, Worrall, Powell; Yates, Danilo, Freuler, Kouyate, Mangala; Awoniyi

We say: PSV Eindhoven 2-0 Nottingham Forest

Barring any shock, PSV should be sure of a routine victory against Forest, whose struggles on the road are documented.
