Mark Hughes targets Queens Park Rangers "longevity"

Mark Hughes targets a period of "longevity" as he is unveiled as manager of Queens Park Rangers.

New Queens Park Rangers manager Mark Hughes has insisted that he wants to stay at the club for a long time.

Welshman Hughes was unveiled as Rangers' boss this afternoon, having reached an agreement with the club's board on Tuesday.

For Hughes, the job is his first in management since leaving Fulham seven months ago. Prior to that, the 48-year-old had a one-year stint in charge of Manchester City that ended with him being relieved of his duties.

Talking to Sports Mole at Loftus Road earlier today, Hughes revealed that he hoped to be given enough time to stamp his authority on the club.

"[The project at QPR] is the attraction for me," said Hughes. "The way I approach my role is that I never go into it thinking that I will be there for the short term. Everything I do is with a view to longevity.

"As a consequence of that when you do leave those roles you've lost things that haven't come to fruition and that's a frustration for me because I know there's lots of things that I've put into place that I don't get the benefit of.

"I'd love to have a period of time at a club that wants to do great things and I'd like to drive that."

Hughes's first game in charge is a trip to Newcastle United this weekend.
