Mid-season report: Queens Park Rangers

Queens Park Ranger must become much more consistent if they are to avoid a swift return to the Championship next season.

Queens Park Rangers have struggled for consistency on their return to the top flight of English football.

Despite signing some impressive players in the summer, including Shaun Wright-Phillips and Joey Barton, Neil Warnock's side are flirting with the relegation zone as the Premier League heads into 2012.

Sports Mole takes a look back at the club's mixed fortunes so far.

August

QPR returned to the top flight with a home match against Bolton on the opening day of the season but a woeful second-half performance condemned Warnock's men to a 4-0 defeat.

The London club then travelled to Everton and returned to the capital with their first win as Tommy Smith netted the winner in a 1-0 triumph. However, the club then crashed out of the Carling Cup through a 2-0 home defeat to Rochdale.

Warnock continued to conclude deals off the field at the end of August but the final match of the month saw his side defeated 2-0 by Wigan at the DW Stadium.

September

As the transfer window slammed shut, Warnock's new-look side began September with a goalless draw against Newcastle at Loftus Road, but new signings Barton and DJ Campbell then netted in an impressive 3-0 away win at Wolves.

Warnock's side ended the month by drawing at home again as a late Richard Dunne own goal gifted them a 1-1 result against Aston Villa.

October

October started miserably for QPR as they were thrashed 6-0 by London rivals Fulham before drawing at home again with fellow strugglers Blackburn.

The Loftus Road outfit then claimed their most notable result of the season as a Heidur Helguson penalty earned them a 1-0 win over nine-man Chelsea in a match where John Terry was accused of racially abusing QPR defender Anton Ferdinand.

QPR failed to reproduce the same form against Spurs as they were beaten 3-1 at White Hart Lane at the end of October.

November

Warnock's side performed impressively against Manchester City at the start of the month but still suffered a 3-2 defeat before beating Stoke City by the same score in their next fixture at the Britannia Stadium.

QPR ended the month in disappointing fashion, as fellow new boys Norwich City condemned them to a 2-1 loss.

December

Top scorer Helguson netted again in another home draw, this time against West Brom, but QPR followed this up with losses against Liverpool and then Manchester United.

Warnock's team then suffered their third successive loss as a late Wes Brown header earned Sunderland a 3-2 win at Loftus Road, as QPR failed to impress at home again.

After Christmas a Jamie Mackie equaliser was enough to earn a 1-1 draw in Wales against Swansea City.
