Rangers are through to the Europa League final after beating RB Leipzig 3-2 on aggregate, following a 3-1 second-leg victory at Ibrox on Thursday night.

After losing 1-0 in the first leg last week, strikes from James Tavernier, Glen Kamara and John Lundstram helped the Gers turn the tie on its head to send the Scottish giants through to their first European final since 2008.

Just as they did against Borussia Dortmund, Red Star Belgrade and Braga in the previous rounds, Rangers scored within the opening 20 minutes and levelled the tie thanks to goal machine Tavernier.

Ryan Kent picked up the ball on the left flank and drove into the penalty box, before he flashed a cross towards the far post where the Gers skipper was positioned perfectly to tap in from close range.

Just five minutes later, Rangers put themselves ahead on aggregate when Scott Wright teed up Kamara on the edge of the area to stroke a left-footed shot into the bottom-left corner, sending the Ibrox faithful into pandemonium.

Joe Aribo then came agonisingly close to adding a third for the hosts moments later, but the Nigerian attacker took a swing and a miss from six yards out and the chance went begging.

Rangers began the second half in positive fashion but Leipzig slowly began to grow into the game and Allan McGregor was forced into making a crucial save in the 70th minute to keep out Konrad Laimer, who made a bursting run through the middle of Rangers' defence before poking a strike straight at the 40-year-old stopper.

However, just seconds later, Leipzig found the back of the net and levelled the tie on aggregate when in-form attacker Christopher Nkunku latched onto the end of an Angelino cross and calmly placed a right-footed volley beyond McGregor from inside the box.

Confidence grew in the Leipzig camp as they pushed for an equaliser on the night, but their hopes of reaching Seville were quashed when substitute Lundstram swept the ball in from close range to put Rangers back in front on aggregate.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst switched to a back five for the closing stages of the contest, and although Leipzig pushed for a stoppage-time equaliser, the Glaswegian giants, who were spurred on by an energy-charged Ibrox, managed to cling on for a historic victory.

Rangers will now face Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League final at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan in Seville on May 18, after the German outfit beat West Ham United 3-1 on aggregate.

The Gers will now turn their attention back to the Scottish Premiership title race as they face Dundee United at home on Sunday, while Leipzig will look to boost their top-four hopes in the Bundesliga when they play host to Augsburg.
