Rangers have one foot in the Petrofac Training Cup final as they lead St Mirren 1-0 at half time at Ibrox.
Rangers started strongly as Arsenal loanee Gedion Zelalem had a strike at goal from the edge of the box but the effort was tipped over the bar by St Mirren goalkeeper Jamie Langfield.
Barrie McKay had a good chance later in the half after some good play, but the winger's shot was straight at the goalkeeper.
It looked like Martyn Waghorn would open the scoring on the half-hour mark as he rounded Langfield but the striker was denied by Jack Baird, who cleared his goal-bound strike off the line.
The home side made their dominance count soon after as a ball over the top from Andy Halliday put Jason Holt in behind the St Mirren defence, and the midfielder calmly slotted the ball beyond a helpless Langfield.
James Tavernier had a late effort blocked as Rangers restrict the away side to just one shot on goal in the first half.
