Mark Warburton will be named as the new manager of Rangers within the next 24 hours, according to a report.

The 52-year-old, who left Brentford at the end of last season following a successful Championship campaign, will be assisted by former Gers skipper David Weir.

BBC Sport claims that talks are now at an advanced stage between the duo, who worked together at Griffin Park, and Rangers chiefs.

Warburton was widely expected to be announced as the club's new manager last week, although Ian Cathro's departure as assistant boss at Valencia is rumoured to have thrown a spanner into the works.

However, it is now believed that Cathro will not take up a role of any sort at Ibrox, with Warburton and Weir instead the pair tasked with taking the fallen Scottish giants back to the top flight.
