Bottom-of-the-table Reading Women host Aston Villa Women in the Women's Super League on Sunday.

The Royals prop up the division having lost all of their opening four matches of the season, while Villa sit sixth with seven points.

Match preview

Kelly Chambers called on her Reading side to find the "desire" to win games after they were convincingly beaten 3-0 by Everton last weekend.

The Royals conceded inside the opening two minutes at the Select Car Leasing Stadium and the game was essentially over by the break as the Toffees scored all of their goals in the first half.

It leaves Reading, who finished seventh last season, with no points and no goals to their name after the opening month of the campaign.

The Berkshire side are only the third team in Women's Super League history to lose their opening four league matches of a season without scoring; only Yeovil Town in 2017-18 failed to net in their first five.

Following a squad overhaul in the summer, Chambers's team faced a tricky start to the campaign with games against Manchester United and Arsenal, but they have failed to recover and are now looking as though they could face a relegation battle.

Aston Villa had to fight to stay in the top flight themselves last season, only surviving relegation by three points after drawing their last five matches of the campaign.

The Midlands outfit won just three league games throughout 2020-21, but have already picked up two victories from the first four matches of this season under new boss Carla Ward.

Boosted by a host of new signings – all four of Villa's goals this season have been scored by summer arrivals – the club appear to be heading in the right direction in their second season in the WSL.

They must bounce back from their first defeat of the campaign though, as early league leaders Arsenal won 4-0 at Villa Park last weekend.

Villa's Diana Silva scored a 91st-minute equaliser to earn a 2-2 draw with Reading in the two sides' last meeting in January, after the Royals had won 3-1 at the Select Car Leasing Stadium earlier in the season.

Team News

Reading pair Deanna Cooper and Natasha Harding were forced off injured in the first half against Everton last weekend, but both have been training this week and could feature.

The Royals' top scorer last season Rachel Rowe is pushing for a recall after not featuring in either of the last two matches.

Sarah Mayling missed Aston Villa's defeat to Arsenal last weekend through illness, but is back available. Emily Gielnik is expected to still be absent.

Defender Meaghan Sargeant has only scored four league goals in her career, but two of them have come against Reading.

Maz Pacheco, Remi Allen and Gemma Davison could all face their former side.

Reading Women possible starting lineup:
Moloney; Bryson, Cooper, Evans, Woodham; Harding, Rowe, Vanhaevermaet; Rose, Eikeland, Dowie

Aston Villa Women possible starting lineup:
Hampton; Mayling, Sargeant, Asante, Pacheco; Allen, Arthur; Petzelberger, Boye-Hlorkah, Lehmann; Hayles

We say: Reading Women 0-0 Aston Villa Women

Confidence is low at Reading at the moment and although we think that the Royals will get their first point of the season against a much-improved Villa side, they may still struggle to get on the scoresheet.
