Reading manager Nigel Adkins has backed goalkeeper Alex McCarthy to earn another call-up to the England squad.
The 23-year-old was named in Roy Hodgson's squad for the friendlies against the Republic of Ireland and Brazil earlier this year, but did not feature in either of the two games.
After making numerous saves against Queens Park Rangers this weekend, Adkins says that McCarthy is in contention for a place in the England squad again soon.
"I keep highlighting to Alex that he is an exceptional goalkeeper," Adkins told the club website.
"He comes and catches crosses better than anyone and his shot stopping is magnificent.
"Is he far away from England? No, not at all."
McCarthy missed out on a call-up for this week's friendlies against Chile and Germany as Joe Hart's position as number one comes under threat.
Celtic's Fraser Forster and John Ruddy of Norwich City were the two other stoppers named alongside Hart.
