Goals from Marco Asensio and Lucas Vazquez give Real Madrid a two-goal advantage over third-tier Fuenlabrada in the Copa del Rey.

Real Madrid will take a two-goal lead into the second leg of their Copa del Rey round-of-32 clash with third-tier Fuenlabrada thanks to a pair of second-half penalties.

The minnows, who also hail from Madrid, frustrated Zinedine Zidane's men during a goalless first half, but Marco Asensio and Lucas Vazquez both found the net from 12 yards after the hour mark to give the favourites a substantial advantage to take back to the Santiago Bernabeu.

The second period also featured two red cards, with both sides going down to 10 men.

Fuenlabrada gave a good account of themselves in the first half against a Madrid side that included a number of experienced players, but Los Blancos almost took the lead before the break when Marcos Llorente's volley from 25 yards out was tipped onto the crossbar by Jordi Codina.

A surging run from Achraf Hakimi led to Real's first goal in the 61st minute, with Fran Garcia hauling the youngster down in the penalty area and the referee pointing to the spot.

Asensio stepped up and sent Codina the wrong way to claim his fourth goal of the season.

Another error in the 80th minute saw Fuenlabrada fall two behind as substitute Paco Candela was penalised for holding at a corner, an offence which earned him a red card just six minutes after coming on.

This time Vazquez took the spot kick, and although Codina guessed correctly, the Spaniard's strike had enough power behind it to creep inside the post and make it 2-0.

Both sides would finish the game with 10 men as Jesus Vallejo was shown a red card for a dangerous challenge in the final minute, but there would be no further goals in the match.
