Mateu Lahoz has been appointed as the referee for El Clasico at Camp Nou later this month.
In what is expected to be a crucial match in this season's La Liga title race, Barcelona welcome Real Madrid on March 22.
There had been much speculation as to who would be handed control of the affair, which is never short of controversy, but the decision has now been made, with Lahoz appointed as the leading official.
The Spaniard is currently in his seventh season as a La Liga referee, while he has been in charge of 13 league matches this season.
Lahoz, 37, officiated the 2014 Copa del Rey final between the two teams, but has never taken charge of a league match between them.
Barcelona currently lead La Liga, one point ahead of second-placed Real Madrid with 12 games remaining.
