How Real Madrid could line up against Atletico Madrid

Sports Mole looks at how Real Madrid could line up in Saturday night's capital derby against Atletico Madrid.

The Madrid derby will take place at the Wanda Metropolitano on Saturday night as Real Madrid travel to Atletico Madrid in La Liga.

Zinedine Zidane's side have won their last three in La Liga to rise to the summit, while they were victorious on their last visit to Atletico in the league.

Wholesale changes were made for Wednesday's clash with Osasuna, but Los Blancos still had far too much as goals from Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo Goes secured a 2-0 victory at the Bernabeu.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how Los Blancos could line up at the Wanda Metropolitano on Saturday night.

Out: Marco Asensio (knee), Ferland Mendy (groin)
Doubtful: Luka Modric (thigh), Isco (hamstring), Marcelo (neck)

Luka Modric has missed Real Madrid's last four matches with a muscular problem, but the Croatia international is in line to return for this game in what would be a huge boost for the visitors.

Isco and Marcelo could also be available following hamstring and neck complaints respectively, although it remains to be seen whether Zidane throws both players into the starting XI this weekend.

Should Marcelo not make it then Nacho is in line to feature at left-back once again as Ferland Mendy is out with a groin problem, while Marco Asensio faces a battle to play again this season due to the serious knee injury that he suffered ahead of the 2019-20 campaign.

As mentioned, Zidane rung the changes against Osasuna but all of the big guns should return on Saturday night, with Eden Hazard, Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema, Dani Carvajal and Raphael Varane all in line to feature.

Vinicius and Rodrygo were both on the scoresheet against Osasuna last time out, but the Brazilian pair are expected to start on the bench this weekend.
