Sergio Ramos has been sent home from international duty with Spain after suffering a back injury in Thursday's 1-1 draw with Italy in Udine.
The Real Madrid defender started the international friendly, but was brought off at half time in what seemed a tactical change.
According to La Roja's official website, Ramos complained of a back problem during the first period and no chances have been taken with his fitness, seeing the centre-back return to his club.
The 29-year-old, who is the third-most capped Spain player of all time, has been struggling with a shoulder issue throughout the last couple of months.
Spain will continue their preparations for Euro 2016 with a friendly against Romania on Sunday night.
