Sports Mole

Good evening and welcome to Sports Mole's live coverage of tonight's La Liga encounter between Rayo Vallecano and Real Madrid at the Estadio Teresa Rivero.

Rayo currently sit in seventh place with seven points from their opening four games, meaning that they enter the match six places above current champions Madrid.

Jose Mourinho's side will hope to build on their Champions League success over Manchester City with three points this evening and they have won their last eight games against the Vallecas club.

Last season's corresponding fixture was won by a single goal, with Cristiano Ronaldo on the scoresheet for Madrid with that infamous back-heel.

Please note that kickoff is at 8.30pm.

9.12pmSo. We are 100% off! Sorry for the confusion. Join Sports Mole from 6.30pm tomorrow. Hopefully we will get some play then! Good night!

9.10pmUpdate: Kick off will be tomorrow at 7pm. That is confirmed. You can all leave now.

9.08pmConfirmation: MATCH TO BE PLAYED TOMORROW. What is happening? Don't ask me!

9.08pmWhat an incredible situation. Madrid players are now on the pitch warming up. There are suggestions that we could indeed have some play this evening.

9.06pmUpdate: We may be back on!

9.03pmRight then. Sorry about that. It appears almost certain that the match will now take place tomorrow. Stay with us for official confirmation. Be sure to join Sports Mole for the action tomorrow. Until then!

9pmIt appears that the match will now be played tomorrow at 9pm. If the lights are indeed fixed by then!

8.57pmCONFIRMED: MATCH SUSPENDED.

8.57pmIt appears almost certain that the match will be delayed until tomorrow. We are awaiting club confirmation.

8.54pmThe Spanish government have put a 9pm (10pm Spanish time) deadline on a final decision due to security reasons. Stay with us for the moment!

8.51pmCome and then. Is someone going to own up to cutting the cables? It just seems like some sort of comedy sketch. But it is really happening, at the top level of football.

8.48pmJust a reminder that a final decision is expected in the next 10 minutes. Although it is looking more and more likely that it will be cancelled.

8.45pmPako Ayestaran and Guillem Balague inside the Sky Sports studio have admitted that they are amazed by the turn of events. That makes three of us then.

8.42pmUpdate: Cables have been cut inside the stadium. The police are involved. Fans are waiting outside. It is chaos! We will have a final decision in 15 minutes time.

8.39pmWe are still awaiting official confirmation about tonight's match. The longer it goes on, the more chance we have of it being called off. If so, it will be played tomorrow.

8.36pmJust a reminder that Athletic Bilbao are playing Malaga at the moment. They have light inside the stadium. It is 0-0 with around two minutes remaining.

8.33pmSome supporters on Twitter are calling for a five-a-side match to be played in the car park. I'd have Casillas, Ramos, Alonso, Modric and Ronaldo on my team. What about you?

8.30pmUpdate: It appears almost certain that play will start in 30 minutes time. However, this is unconfirmed. I am not sure who to trust at the moment.

8.27pmSome reports on Twitter are suggesting that the match could be delayed for an hour. Others are suggesting 30 minutes. Some are even suggesting that Ronaldo has been abducted by aliens. Yep, you heard it.

8.24pmSpanish newspaper Marca are reporting that the match could even be suspended. I am sure it will not come to that. But we will keep you updated.

8.24pmUpdate: Spanish football correspondent Guillem Balague has confirmed on Twitter that cables inside the stadium have been cut. We are awaiting official confirmation on the new kick off time. But there will be a delay.

8.21pmRayo subs: Dani, Galvez, Gonzalez, Piti, Trashorras, Abu, Bille

Madrid subs: Adan, Varane, Albiol, Khedira, Kaka, Ozil, Higuain

8.18pmBREAKING: There are reports breaking that issues with floodlights inside the stadium could delay kick off for an hour. These are unconfirmed. I shall keep you updated.

8.18pmI know Barcelona have not played well this season, and I know that it is early days. But that is a huge gap. Madrid need to put a winning run together. That must start tonight.

8.15pmWe have gone this far without mentioning Madrid's current position in La Liga. They sit in 15th spot in the table with just four points from four games, meaning that they are 11 points off the pace at the top of the table.

8.12pmMeanwhile, Madrid have lost their last three matches away from home in all competitions. That record just seems unreal for a Mourinho side? There is something not quite right at the moment. And I don't just mean with Ronaldo.

8.09pmIn terms of the history between the two sides. Rayo's last victory over Madrid came in February 1997 with a single-goal win. But with Madrid in a poor run of form in the league, anything can happen.

8.06pmSo there we have it. Sergio Ramos also returns to the Madrid team this evening. Meanwhile, Rayo pair Lass in attack with young Brazilian forward Leo Baptistao. I am looking forward to seeing him this evening.

8.03pmRayo Vallecano: Ruben; Tito, Casado, Labaka, Amat; Carlos, Fuego, Dominguez, Deilibasic; Baptistao, Lass

Real Madrid: Casillas; Arbeloa, Ramos, Pepe, Marcelo; Essien, Alonso, Modric; Ronaldo, Benzema, Di Maria

8.03pmTEAM NEWS: Michael Essien and Karim Benzema both start for Real Madrid this evening. Full teams to follow.

8pmGood evening all! We head back to La Liga action with Real Madrid very much in need of three points tonight. In their way? This season's surprise package Rayo Vallecano.
