Sports Mole dissects the action as Osasuna and Real Madrid share the points in a 0-0 draw on Saturday.

Osasuna moved off the bottom of the La Liga table with a 0-0 draw against a struggling Real Madrid on Saturday.

A drab first period brought few chances for either side, with neither team registering a single attempt on target.

Madrid were reduced to 10 men in the second period when Kaka was given his marching orders. However, neither side could make the breakthrough as the points were shared.

Here, Sports Mole dissects the 90 minutes of action between the two sides.

Match statistics:

Osasuna:
Shots: 11
On target: 2
Possession: 50%
Corners: 7
Fouls: 15

Real Madrid:
Shots: 7
On target: 1
Possession: 50%
Corners: 6
Fouls: 13

Was the result fair?

On the balance of play, you would have to say yes. Neither team registered a single shot on target in a poor opening period. The tempo did improve in the second half, but neither really did enough to secure all three points. Osasuna will certainly be delighted with the point, but may see this evening as a chance missed with Madrid struggling in the final moments with 10 men.

Osasuna's performance

6/10. Despite not really offering a goal-threat in the opening half, Osasuna were nice and tidy in possession and restricted Madrid to a couple of long-range strikes. They continued to impress in defence in the second period, but their inability to create clear opportunities meant that a point was just about the best that they could hope for.

Real Madrid's performance

Madrid's performance this evening was just about as poor as they have been all season. Without Cristiano Ronaldo they had no real focal point in the final third as Osasuna were able to step up and squeeze possession in midfield. It took until the 88th minute for them to have their first and only attempt on target. Their problems continue to mount.

Sports Mole's man of the match

Sami Khedira: The German was the shining light for his side in a match that lacked any sort of quality. The midfielder went about his business in the middle of the park and made two timely interceptions in the final moments. He is surely the best of his kind in world football.

Biggest gaffe of the match

Andres Fernandez came close to costing his side when he decided to attempt to win possession by vacating his goal in the first period. He was rounded by Xabi Alonso before the Spaniard fired a low cross into the box, luckily for the goalkeeper, Lolo was on the cover.

Referee performance

Carlos Clos had a fairly straightforward 90 minutes of action this evening. He largely went unnoticed, but was prepared to stamp his authority when the Spaniard felt that it was needed. Neither side will have had any complaints.

What next?

Osasuna: Osasuna will attempt to continue their survival mission when they face fellow relegation contenders Deportivo La Coruna next Sunday.

Real Madrid: Madrid are in Copa del Rey action against Valencia on Tuesday as they bid to make the quarter-finals. They return to league action away to the same opponents next Sunday.
