Carlo Ancelotti has moved to play down the significance of Real Madrid's four-point lead over second-placed Barcelona in the race for La Liga glory.
The Blancos capitalised on Barca's shock 1-0 defeat to Malaga on Saturday in Sunday's 2-0 win over Elche, with second-half goals from Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo sealing the win.
Ancelotti's side travel to the Camp Nou on March 22 for an El Clasico meeting, and the Italian insists that there are plenty more twists and turns to come in the title race.
"It was an important game after what happened yesterday [Saturday], above all to take a distance over Barcelona," he told reporters.
"It is clear that yesterday's defeat surprised everyone, as Barca had been in very good form, playing very well.
"[It is] clear we have a lead now, but as I have said many times this title will be decided on the last day of the season."
Madrid host Villarreal at the Santiago Bernabeu next Sunday.
