Real Madrid are reportedly closing in on the appointment of current Napoli manager Rafael Benitez.
The Spaniard, who spent six years coaching Liverpool, has been touted as a potential candidate over the last few weeks amid rumours that Carlo Ancelotti could be sacked.
The Italian's position at the Bernabeu is believed to be in danger after the Spanish giants failed to win the La Liga title and dropped out of the Champions League at the semi-final stage.
According to Spanish newspaper AS, Benitez, who coached the lower-ranked Real team back in the 1990s, is the frontrunner to take over should Ancelotti be dismissed.
The report claims that the 55-year-old, who will come to the end of his contract with Napoli this summer, could be installed as early as next week.
