Rafael Benitez's first home La Liga game in charge of Real Madrid ended in a 5-0 win over Real Betis.

Gareth Bale opened the scoring inside the opening two minutes, before goals from James Rodriguez (2) and a Karim Benzema header made it 4-0 for Los Blancos.

Betis, meanwhile, missed a second-half penalty through Ruben Castro on what was a disappointing evening, with Bale wrapping up the scoring in the 89th minute.

Here, Sports Mole has taken a closer look at how each player performed in Madrid.

REAL MADRID

Goal

Keylor Navas: Did not have an awful lot to do for long spells, but did well to deny Castro in the first half and then keep out the striker's penalty. Can be pleased with his overall performance. (7/10)

Defence

Danilo: Seems to have been given the nod ahead of Dani Carvajal at right-back and the Brazilian once again impressed with a strong performance. Contributed at both ends of the field. (7/10)

Raphael Varane: Continues to keep Pepe out of the team and had another strong night. Unfortunate to concede a penalty in the second period, but his goalkeeper came to the rescue. (7/10)

Sergio Ramos: Did not really need to be at his best, but still put on a classy display. Not really troubled at the back and came close with a super over-head kick in the second period. (8/10)

Marcelo: Perhaps not as involved as he might have been going forward, but put in plenty of running throughout the match and was not really troubled in a defensive aspect. (7/10)

Midfield

Luka Modric: Seemed unlikely that the Croatian would return for the second period after picking up an ankle problem, but he continued to control the midfield until the 75th minute. (7/10)

Toni Kroos: Departed just past the hour in Madrid, but still made a big contribution. Controlled the match from a deep area and set up James for his second goal of the match. (7/10)

James Rodriguez: Man-of-the-match performance from the Colombian, who set up Bale early on before helping himself to two goals, both of which were of the highest order. (9/10)

Attack

Cristiano Ronaldo: Not his night in front of goal. Missed a host of chances, but was always a threat. As a result, deserves more than a 6/10, which might normally have been the case. (7/10)

Karim Benzema: Has not played much football over the last couple of months due to injury, but returned here and scored a super header before being replaced early in the second period. (7/10)

Gareth Bale: Opened the scoring with a close-range header in the second minute, before finding the back of the net from distance late on. Also set up Benzema for Real Madrid's third. (8/10)

Substitutes

Isco: When everyone is fit, does not seem to make the first-choice XI, which is criminal for a player of his ability. Put in a classy performance after replacing Benzema early in the second half. (6/10)

Casemiro: Faces a fight to secure first-team football this season, but was given the final 25 minutes here and helped put out a number of fires. Picked up a booking late on. (6/10)

Mateo Kovacic: Came on for his home debut in the 74th minute, replacing Modric. Used the ball intelligently as he operated from a deep midfield position. (6/10)

REAL BETIS

Goal

Antonio Adan: Might have conceded five goals, but was far from his team's worst performer. Won his personal battle with Ronaldo as he denied the Portuguese on a number of occasions. (6/10)

Defence

Cristiano Piccini: Had a really tough game at right full-back. Struggled to deal with the attacking threat of Real Madrid and did not make his mark in an attacking sense. (5/10)

German Pezzella: Only moved to Betis from River Plate this summer and will need time to adapt to Spanish football. Along with a number of his teammates, had a difficult night. (5/10)

Bruno Gonzalez: Made some good clearances in the first period, but was ultimately part of a defence that started the second half really poorly. Not a game to remember. (5/10)

Francisco Molinero: Was substituted at the interval following a difficult first half in an unfamiliar left-back position. Conceded the free kick which led to Real Madrid's second goal. (5/10)

Midfield

Xavi Torres: Did not have much of the ball throughout the contest, but his work-rate cannot be criticised. Ultimately needed more from those around him. (6/10)

Alfred N'Diaye: One of Betis' better performers on the night. Worked extremely hard in the middle of the park before being replaced in the 81st minute. (6/10)

Alvaro Cejudo: Operated in a number of midfield positions, but did not have a positive influence on the game. Will not be the last player to struggle against Real Madrid this season. (5/10)

Attack

Juan Manuel Vargas: Caused Real Madrid problems in the first period after delivering a couple of dangerous crosses, but faded as the match progressed. (6/10)

Ruben Castro: Should have scored in the first period, while he also missed from the penalty spot in the second half. Will be vital to Betis' chances of staying in the league this season. (6/10)

Dani Ceballos: Undoubtedly one of the brightest talents in Spanish football, but struggled to make his mark at the Bernabeu and was replaced early in the second half by Didier Digard. (6/10)

Substitutes

Jorge Molina: Was somewhat surprisingly introduced for Molinero at the break as Pepe Mel went for two strikers. Provided a good target in the final third, but did not have any chances of note. (6/10)

Didier Digard: Replaced the ineffective Ceballos early in the second period after Real Madrid had made it 4-0. Brought better balance to the team. (6/10)

Petros: Replaced N'Diaye for the final 10 minutes but it was always to be a big ask for the Brazilian to make an impact at that stage of the match. (6/10)
