Real Madrid have been confirmed as La Liga champions for the 2021-22 campaign courtesy of a 4-0 win over Espanyol at Bernabeu on Saturday afternoon.

Los Blancos entered the clash with the Catalan outfit knowing that a draw would be enough for them to win the title with four matches to spare, such has been their dominance this term.

Head coach Carlo Ancelotti shuffled his pack ahead of the second leg of their Champions League semi-final with Manchester City next week.

However, the home side still proved to be too strong for their opposition, netting four unanswered goals to win the title in style.

Rodrygo scored twice in the latter stages of the first half to put Real Madrid in control of the match before Marco Asensio scored a third in the 55th minute to take the match away from Espanyol.

Karim Benzema was introduced in the 60th minute of the contest, and the France international got his name on the scoresheet in the 81st minute to make it 4-0 to Ancelotti's team.

Real Madrid are confirmed as Spanish champions for the 35th time in their history and will enter their final four league games of the season against Atletico Madrid, Levante, Cadiz and Real Betis under no pressure.

Saturday's victory has moved Los Blancos onto 81 points, 17 clear of second-placed Sevilla in the table, boasting a record of 25 wins, six draws and three defeats from their 34 matches. body check tags ::
