Real Madrid register their third successive win in La Liga as they ease to a 5-2 victory over Osasuna.

Real Madrid have eased to a 5-2 victory over Osasuna in a game where Cristiano Ronaldo made his first appearance since the final of Euro 2016.

The Portuguese star opened the scoring during the early stages as his side cantered to an emphatic win, despite a number of late lapses in concentration.

It took Ronaldo just six minutes to mark his return to action with a goal, but he had Gareth Bale to thank for sliding the ball over to him at the back post to slot home from two yards.

Bale attempted to get his own name on the scoresheet when taking responsibility for a free kick around 25 yards out, but despite his effort possessing swerve and dip, it was always going off target.

Sergio Ramos wasted two opportunities to score for the home side in the space of a few minutes and Unai Garcia almost made him pay as he struck the ball off the crossbar.

However, with five minutes of the first half remaining, Real doubled their lead through Danilo, whose shot lacked power but still managed to creep under Nauzet Perez.

Osasuna needed to reach the break without further damage but in added-on time, Ramos rose to meet a Toni Kroos corner and his header found the top corner of the net.

The visitors returned for the second half on the front foot but Real soon found a fourth goal through Pepe, who met another Kroos corner before powering a header into the bottom corner.

Osasuna were starting to wilt in the Madrid sun, and Luka Modric capitalised to add a fifth with an accurate effort into the bottom corner from around 20 yards out.

The European champions were relentless as they pushed for more goals but soon after Ronaldo was substituted, Osasuna found a consolation goal as former Wigan Athletic attacker Oriol Riera headed into the corner after meeting Miguel de las Cuevas's cross.

Osasuna could have pulled another back soon afterwards when Ramos conceded a penalty but from the resulting spot kick, Riera placed his effort too close to Kiko Casilla.

However, they finally made it 5-2 with 11 minutes left when David Garcia met Jaime Romero's cross with his head to find the top corner of the net.

The drama was not over as Tano Bonnin was dismissed for two bookable offences but with the game over as a contest, the sending-off had no bearing on the final result as Real eased to another three points.
