AC Milan director Zvonimir Boban has revealed that Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric rejected a move to San Siro earlier this summer.
Despite being linked with a move away from Los Blancos since the end of last year's World Cup, Modric has just started his eighth campaign at the Bernabeu.
However, Boban has claimed that the Croatia international dismissed the opportunity to move to Milan, keen to avoid departing the La Liga giants after 'a bad season'.
Boban told Sky Sport Italia: "Luka is a great Milanese player. He's a great player but it's difficult to sign him.
"He didn't want to leave Madrid after a bad season. We didn't find the economic conditions we wanted. We dealt with other players in the same position. We'll see. We have a good squad."
Milan currently sit in ninth place in the Serie A standings after the opening two matches.
