Real Madrid left-back Marcelo is reportedly set to stay with the Spanish giants for the 2021-22 campaign.
The 33-year-old, who has been with Los Blancos since January 2007, will see his current contract expire in June 2022, but it is understood that there have been no talks to either sell the defender or renew his deal at present.
According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Real have never considered selling Marcelo and his is now considered a key player under new head coach Carlo Ancelotti.
The report also states that the Brazilian will be made the club's new captain, following the departure of defender Sergio Ramos, becoming Real's first foreign skipper since 1904.
Marcelo has had to fight for his place at left-back along with Ferland Mendy recently, with the latter preferred for much of last season.
The Brazilian still made 19 appearances during the 2020-21 campaign, adding to the 528 times he has played for Real Madrid during a 14-year career in the Spanish capital. body check tags ::
