Bayern Munich legend Lothar Matthaus has said that the timing of the club's announcement of the signing of Mario Gotze was "unfair" to Borussia Dortmund.
Dortmund host Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-final first leg this evening, just 24 hours after the future transfer was made official by their domestic rivals.
Matthaus feels that the way the transfer was broadcast was wrong and puts BVB at a disadvantage in their quest for European success.
"It's not fair, [the timing] is unbelievable," the World Cup winner is quoted as saying in The Express.
"The fans feel betrayed. The comments Mario Gotze made in the recent past [about wanting to stay at Dortmund] don't make him credible. This damages the whole of football."
Bayern will reportedly pay BVB a fee of around £32m for the 20-year-old playmaker.
