Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos has acknowledged that La Liga would be 'a better place' if Lionel Messi remains at Barcelona.
Having spent all of his professional career at Camp Nou, Messi has informed Barcelona officials that he wishes to leave the club this summer.
While the developments have divided opinion, especially between the relevant parties, Ramos feels that his long-term rival deserves to have the final say on his next career move.
Speaking at a press conference, Ramos told reporters: "He's earned the right to decide his future, but I don't know if it's the best way.
"For Spanish football, for Barcelona and for us, we'd like him to stay. Leo makes the Spanish league, his team and the Clasicos better. You always like beating the best and he's one of the best in the world."
Manchester City are the favourites to sign the 33-year-old, who is keen for a reunion with former Barca boss Pep Guardiola.
