Real Madrid are reportedly considering a surprise move for Atletico Madrid centre-back Jose Gimenez.
The 21-year-old joined Atletico from Danubio in 2013, and after making 26 first-team appearances last season has emerged into a first-choice pick for Diego Simeone this term.
The defender, who has also already made 21 appearances for Uruguay, is currently contracted to Atletico until 2020, but according to Marca, Real Madrid are prepared to pay Gimenez's buyout clause of £51m.
Any move across the capital would be a shock, but it is understood that Atletico boss Simeone would be prepared to lose the centre-back in order to boost his summer transfer chest.
Atletico currently sit one point and one spot above Real Madrid in the La Liga table.
