Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane has revealed that the Spanish giants held talks with Paul Pogba in the summer when it became clear that the midfielder would leave Juventus.
Los Blancos were strongly linked with a move for the France international in the summer, but Manchester United agreed a world-record fee with Juve to re-sign the 23-year-old.
Zidane has claimed that Pogba's reported move to the Bernabeu "could have happened", but they eventually lost out in the race to Man United, who parted with close to £90m to bring the midfielder back to Old Trafford.
"It could have happened," Zidane told RMC. "There were conversations [to sign him] but it didn't go ahead."
A transfer ban means that Real Madrid will now not be able to sign any new players until January 2018.
