Real Sociedad hold Manchester United to a goalless draw in their Champions League Group A match this evening.

Manchester United and Real Sociedad have shared a goalless draw in their Champions League match this evening.

Shinji Kagawa had the first opportunity on goal for the visitors, but he saw his low drive deflect wide of the post.

Soon after Kagawa came close again for United as he tried to beat Claudio Bravo from range, yet the keeper was equal to his well-struck effort.

The home side worked a promising opening for Imanol Agirretxe, who was unable to get good enough contact on the ball and put his strike wide.

Carlos Vela almost gave David de Gea a scare in the last five minutes of the half when his cross into the middle had to be pushed over the bar by the keeper.

Alberto de la Bella came within inches of giving the hosts the lead at the end of the half, but he saw his low effort go wide of De Gea's post with the keeper left rooted to the spot.

After the break, Ruben Pardo was next to threaten United's goal when his low effort skidded wide of the post.

Javier Hernandez had a golden opportunity to put the visitors into the lead when he was found unmarked in the middle by Kagawa, but he fired over from just a few yards out.

Robin van Persie came off the bench just after the hour mark and immediately hit the post for United, before curling an effort wide of Bravo's post.

In the 70th minute, the visitors were awarded a penalty after Markel Bergara fouled Ashley Young inside the box. Van Persie stepped up to take the spot kick, but he fired his effort against the post.

Marouane Fellaini was sent off for United in the final minute after picking up his second yellow card of the match, but neither team could make breakthrough and the game finished level.
