Real Betis failed to take advantage of a 10-man Real Valladolid by stumbling to a 1-0 defeat in the first leg of their Copa del Rey clash.
The Segunda Division side managed to stun their opponents by opening the scoring five minutes before half-time courtesy of a strike by Alberto Bueno.
The away side didn't have enough time to find a response before the close of the first half and while the La Liga outfit came out firing in the early stages of the second 45 minutes, an early breakthrough couldn't be found.
Valladolid substitute Henrique Sereno was handed his marching orders in the 64th minute after clashing with Betis defender Damien Perquis while off the ball.
Despite Betis being handed a slight advantage following Sereno's dismissal, they were unable to capitalise on their fortune and they head back to the Benito Villamarin with a one-goal deficit.
